Flashcards
All beginning students need flashcards as soon as the Bastien books start introducing notes on the staff lines. Flashcards work miracles to help children learn what a note is without having to find it on the keyboard. After much practice a person will just know them like they know their ABC's for school. Bastien Piano Basics
I require my students to use the Bastien Piano Basics books. I do like the students to have each book in the set (there are four or five in each color/level). Pink is the beginner level.
Holiday Music
I am going to put a few links to holiday music that students may want to use for their "fun stuff" this month.
Lesson Basics
Right now I am charging $65 per month for a 30 minute lesson once per week. This rate is flat (unless otherwise noted). If you miss a lesson I offer make up lessons once per month. You can call me or e-mail regarding more details about missed lessons.
I currently start students as soon as they can read quite well. Generally by second grade a child is ready. I also teach adults. Beginners to intermediate students are welcome.
Regarding recitals: I currently have no plans to hold recitals. If and when I decide to do a recital my students/parents will be the first to know. My personal thought is that while it is good for children to be comfortable playing for other people, not all children thrive under the pressure of performance.
For the remainder of 2008 I will not be teaching on the following dates:
November 27 - 30th
December 24 - 31st
For January 2009 I will not be teaching on the 1st. I will post more dates as we get closer to January.
